Photo of the Week: On November 18, students, staff, and faculty packed Nancy Schrom Dye Lecture Hall for a black faculty- and staff-led teach-in to discuss the state of black life within and out of the context of higher education and recent events. The teach-in offered an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students of color to voice their thoughts and concerns about the recent events at the University of Missouri, Yale University, Ithaca College, Claremont McKenna College, and other campuses across the nation. Also addressed were the systemic problems, practices, and policies in higher education and possible steps forward for Oberlin to become more inclusive and diverse as a community and institution. Advancing Academic Exchange with Cuba

David Kamitsuka and Ellen Sayles traveled to Cuba as part of a delegation from 12 U.S. colleges and universities to better understand Cuban higher education and meet university and ministry officials who could help facilitate future partnerships.

A Glimpse into the Mind of Martine Rothblatt

President Marvin Krislov speaks with Martine Rothblatt at her convocation on November 5 in Finney Chapel. The founder of Sirius Satellite Radio and the highest-paid female CEO in the United States in 2013, Rothblatt discussed a wide variety of topics—ranging from mindware ethics to pursuing one’s passions—throughout the evening. The 2015-16 Convocation Series resumes in the spring semester with Rhiannon Giddens ’00, Bhi Bhiman, and Leyla McCalla on February 20, 2016.
