Dan Stinebring and Students Visit West Virginia Radio Telescope
May 20, 2013
Federighi Professor of Physics and Astronomy Dan Stinebring is traveling to Green Bank, West Virginia, with three Oberlin students—rising senior Elizabeth Garbee and rising sophomores Ben Izmirli and Jason Rosenblum the week of May 20 to 24. They will participate in two days of training in the use of the super-sensitive NRAO Green Bank Telescope, at which point they will be qualified to use the telescope remotely from Stinebring’s Oberlin lab. They will then participate in a three day meeting of the NANOGrav collaboration, of which Stinebring is a senior member. NANOGrav is one of three international groups attempting to detect gravitational waves using ultra-precise timing of radio pulsars.
