Dan Styer Edits Richard Feynman
Feb. 11, 2011
In 1965, Richard Feynman and Al Hibbs published a textbook on Quantum Mechanics and Path Integrals. In 2005, Oberlin College's Schiffer Professor of Physics Dan Styer read that book carefully and found that not only was it full of remarkable insight, but also of excruciating errors—he found and cataloged 879 errors, plus numerous notational glitches and inconsistencies. Styer retypeset the book, correcting the errors, making the notation consistent, and improving the line breaks in equations, all the while maintaining the book's vivid and gutsy point of view. The resulting emended edition was published by Dover Publications in July of 2010, and since then has hovered around third and fourth position in the Amazon list of "Best Sellers in Quantum Theory".
