SUPPORT GROUP FOR CAREGIVERS OF THOSE WITH ALZHEIMERS’ DISEASE OR OTHER DEMENTIA

Tuesday July 24, 2018 2:00 to 3:30pm If you’re a caregiver for someone suffering from Alzheimers’ Disease or some other form of dementia, this group may be of interest and of help to you. The group will be facilitated by staff and volunteers of the Alzheimers’ Association, but will be “user-run”. If you’re a caregiver, your experiences - successful and otherwise - are important and valid and may be of help to other caregivers, as theirs may be for you. Sharing experiences is one of the best ways to learn to be a more effective and successful caregiver. Caregiver stress is well-documented to be a contributing factor for a variety of problems, including depression, anxiety, anger, social withdrawal, sleep disturbance, and problems with mood and concentration. Managing one’s stress may help reduce these problems, and make one a more effective - and happier - caregiver. The group meets at the First Church in Oberlin, at the corner of N. Main and W. Lorain Streets, on the fourth Tuesday of every month, from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Please join us next on July 24th. If you have any questions about this group, or about Alzheimers’ Disease or the Alzheimers’ Association, please call the local Association office, at 800-272-3900.

Francis Dunnery house concert

Francis Dunnery will be playing a "house concert" at the home of Martin and Kate Thomson-Jones on Friday, July 20th.

Once called the “most interesting man” in rock by the British music magazine Melody Maker, Francis Dunnery is an exceptional songwriter and guitarist who has recorded and and toured with the likes of Robert Plant, Santana, Lauryn Hill, Steve Hackett (Genesis), Ian Brown (Stone Roses), Chris Difford (Squeeze), Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe (Yes), and more. Since 2005, Dunnery has also been doing “house concert” tours—playing in people’s homes for small groups. He describes the experience this way: ”It's just me and my acoustic guitar, no amplification, singing my songs…. I sing songs and tell stories of my life. It's not a party; it's more like going to church, but church with swearing.” So if you like good songs, good guitar playing, swearing, and a Cumbrian accent, don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy all four in one evening.

You can check out Francis’s albums on Spotify—try “Tall Blonde Helicopter” and “The Gulley Flats Boys,” and then run–don’t–walk to your email account to email Martin at martinthomsonjones@gmail.com for tickets. Tickets are $30 each plus $1.21 per ticket in Paypal transaction fees; seats are limited.
