Neuroscience Research Study

We are interested in how things look and sound to typically developing adults (18-30). You must have no history of developmental disorders (autism, dyslexia, schizophrenia, or epilepsy) and have normal to corrected-to-normal vision and hearing.

You would complete simple computer tasks while having your brain activity recorded using EEG. You would also fill out several surveys asking you basic information about yourself as well as how you interact with the world around you.

This study takes place in the science center and involves two sessions: the first lasting 30 minutes and the second lasting three hours. All participants will receive a gift card of their choice at a rate of $5 per half hour. Please call (775-8951) or email (lklab@oberlin.edu) if interested.

SUPPORT GROUP FOR CAREGIVERS OF THOSE WITH ALZHEIMERS’ DISEASE TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2018 2:00 to 3:30pm

If you’re a caregiver for someone suffering from Alzheimers’ Disease or some other form of dementia, this group may be of interest and of help to you. The group will be facilitated by staff and volunteers of the Alzheimers’ Association, but will be “user-run”. If you’re a caregiver, your experiences - successful and otherwise - are important and valid and may be of help to other caregivers, as theirs may be for you. Sharing experiences is one of the best ways to learn to be a more effective and successful caregiver. Caregiver stress is well-documented to be a contributing factor for a variety of problems, including depression, anxiety, anger, social withdrawal, sleep disturbance, and problems with mood and concentration. Managing one’s stress may help reduce these problems, and make one a more effective - and happier - caregiver. The group meets at the First Church in Oberlin, at the corner of N. Main and W. Lorain Streets, on the fourth Tuesday of every month, from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Please join us next on January 23d. If you have any questions about this group, or about Alzheimers’ Disease or the Alzheimers’ Association, please call the local Association office, at 800-272-3900.

Looking for a Babysitter?

Hi, my name is Annalise Cameron and I am a Sociology major with a minor in Law & Society at Oberlin College. I am an Oberlin native and grew up attending Oberlin City Schools, so I am very familiar with the kids and environment of the town.

I am a Red Cross lifeguard with waterfront training and have First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. I have experience working with children in a variety of settings. As a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), I have worked with children ages 6 mo-14 yrs. Also, I am a camp counselor for kids ages 5-16 yrs at a stay-away summer camp. I have worked as an academic and music tutor for kids grades 3-12. Also, I have experience as a swim coach for kids ages 7-16 yrs. I am very comfortable cooking meals and snacks (even for picky eaters)!

I have a fairly open schedule and can provide my own transportation. Please contact me via text, call, or email for more information or any questions you may have!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Oberlin Weekday Community Meals provides a hot and nutritious dinner to any and all, at Christ Episcopal Church, 162 South Main Street, every Monday through Friday. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, and then clean up following dinner. Dinner is served from 5:00 to 5:30, but we ask that volunteers be available from roughly 4:45 until roughly 6:00. No heavy lifting is involved, and volunteers are invited to join in the meal themselves. We are hopeful for volunteers who are able to commit to a regular once-a-week schedule, but any help you can provide will be welcome. If you are interested in providing needed assistance to your community, please contact the Christ Church office at 775-2501 or communitymeals440@gmail.com
