Mindful Self-Compassion

A course in 9 sessions, beginning on Tuesday, January 15th.

Mindful Self-Compassion is an empirically-supported training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. It teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care, and understanding. Anyone can learn self-compassion, and the research shows that it is strongly associated with greater emotional wellbeing, less anxiety, depression, and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and satisfying personal relationships.

Program activities include meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices. The goal is for participants to experience self-compassion directly and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life.

The course includes 8 weekly sessions of 21⁄2 hours each, at Solaluna in Oberlin, and a 4-hour retreat at Common Ground. It's compatible with a wide range of religious and spiritual orientations, and with having no religious or spiritual orientation. And no previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required.
