HIRING: Energy Conservation Finance Intern

The Office of Environmental Sustainability (OES) is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and motivated student to serve as the Energy Conservation Finance Intern. The successful candidate will work with the Assistant Vice President Campus Energy and Sustainability and the Associate Vice President of Finance to develop and standardize project metrics relevant and compliant to the College mission and goals, including attaining carbon neutrality. In addition, this position will help research advanced energy as well as creative funding opportunities on campus. This is a part time (flexible hours per week) $9/hr. paid student position reporting to the Sustainability Manager. Generally, the intern may plan for 8-12 hours but at times more than 12 hours in a week may be required to meet time or submission requirements.

Responsibilities: This intern will interact with faculty, A&PS staff, Columbia Gas, OLMPS, and Efficiency Smart staff to research, develop, recommend, and implement financial and economic project metrics to advance sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives at Oberlin College. The successful candidate may also contribute to energy efficiency rebate program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: • Build on and develop resources to raise awareness of energy conservation and associated finance structures for building systems and operational structures (pertaining to energy sources, energy usage, water conservation, and waste reduction); • Gather information and feedback from staff regarding current project metrics utilized and those desired for future decisions; • Assist in building collaboration for useful project metric standards, including assumptions and accurate rates or percentages that may inform calculations such as Life Cycle Costs. • Gather information and feedback from potential rebate programs, such as Efficiency Smart, Columbia Gas of Ohio’s Innovative Energy Solutions (IES); • Assist in qualifying projects and site for appropriate energy rebate program participation; • Gather information and feedback for potential finance structures; • Present to VP Finance and Administration Staff.

Qualifications: Full-time student at Oberlin College as of the 2017-18 academic year with an interest in finance, economics, and environmental sustainability issues (this may be from related classes, student groups, volunteerism, work, and the like). Applicants must have familiarity with finance and/or economics concepts, maturity, and ability to work successfully with adults. Preferred qualifications include student or community organizing experience, research and analytical skills, and working with diverse audiences, and drive to advance sustainability this exciting program at Oberlin College.
