Announcing the Class of 2017 Banner Design Competition!

The Office of Alumni Relations invites design ideas for the Class of 2017 Banner. Any member of the Class of 2017 is eligible to submit a design. Creativity is encouraged!

The tradition of Class Banners dates back to the late 1800s and is a wonderful way to represent the spirit of your class. The banner is unveiled at the annual meeting of the Alumni Association, which this year takes place on May 19, 2017 during the Champagne Dinner for Alumni and Graduating Seniors.

The banner will then be displayed in the Big Top Tent in Wilder Bowl during Commencement/Reunion Weekend, and – best of all – on the front of Finney Chapel during Illumination. Imagine your banner hanging overhead as Oberlin Steel performs on the steps of Finney and a huge crowd dances! Finally, the banner represents the Class of 2017 at all future Oberlin reunion weekends.

Ground rules:

• Your sketch idea needs to incorporate the word “Oberlin” and include “2017” or ’17. • Your design must be possible to replicate as a 6’ x 9’ felt banner, with a 4” margin at the top to facilitate hanging. • The design can hang either vertically or horizontally. • Feel free to submit several entries. • When submitting your design, be sure to include your name, e-mail address, and phone number.

How to submit:

Email a PDF or JPG of your design to Jessica Stewart in the Alumni Office at jstewart@oberlin.edu. Or drop it off at the Alumni Office at the Ward Alumni Center, 65 E College St, Suite 4 (behind Slow Train, in the building to the east) by Friday, April 21 at 5:00 p.m.

The winning design will be selected by the Senior Class Officers and Gift Committee Members. The winner (and recruited friends) will be expected to make the actual banner. The Office of Alumni Relations will pay for labor and all materials necessary to make the banner. In case of questions, please contact the Alumni Office jstewart@oberlin.edu.
