Special Alert--Report of Sexual Assault

A report of sexual assault of a female student has been shared by a College administrator with the office of Safety and Security. The sexual assault that occurred on Friday, September 11, 2015 in an off-campus house in the area of North Main and Walnut Streets was reported to a third party and no additional detail of the incident has been reported at this time to the Office of Safety and Security. The person alleged to have committed the assault was a male student. When reports of sexual assault are made, the report is shared with the Oberlin Police Department. The information is also shared with the Oberlin Community to raise awareness of reporting options and support resources for those who have experienced sexual assault.

Oberlin College Safety and Security and the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion / Title IX urges anyone who believes they have experienced sexual assault to immediately seek medical assistance and/or notify law enforcement for assistance (Call 911 for emergencies or Oberlin Police Department directly at (440) 774-1061). Emergency assistance from the Lorain County Rape Crisis Center, the Nord Center Sexual Assault Care Unit, and the Lorain County Mental Health Crisis Hotline can be obtained at 1-800-888-6161.

There are also on-campus reporting options to report misconduct or violence. Non- consensual sexual conduct, unwelcome or inappropriate touching, and administering intoxicants drugs or alcohol) to cloud judgment are considered violations of the Oberlin Sexual Offense Policy, as well as violations of State law. Any Oberlin College community member who finds specific behavior hostile, offensive, or intimidating; witnesses or is subject to unwanted physical contact of any kind; or is subject to sexual conduct for which consent has not been given, can and should report that behavior immediately to Safety and Security for assistance.
