Special Alert—Report of Sexual Misconduct/Sexual Imposition

Feb. 6, 2015

To: The Oberlin College Community From: Marjorie Burton, Director of Safety and Security Date: February 6, 2015

A report of sexual misconduct that occurred earlier this academic year has been shared by a College administrator with the office of Safety and Security. The sexual misconduct consisted of physical contact (touching) of a sexual nature with another person when the contact is offensive to the other person, or reckless in that regard. It was reported to have occurred in a College academic building and involved non-student members of the College community. Sexual misconduct of this nature is potentially a violation of the Ohio law known as sexual imposition. Reports of alleged sexual imposition are shared with the Oberlin Police Department and are also investigated under the College Sexual Misconduct Policy requirements.

While not all crimes can be prevented, and the below advice may not be specific for this incident, please be reminded to take special care for your own safety and for the safety of others.

Be well-acquainted and observe the requirements of Oberlin’s conduct policies, including the Sexual Misconduct Policy, and Policy on Harassment and Discrimination.
