A Safety and Security officer on patrol near the Language House Complex and Lord-Saunders Program Housing observed footprints in the snow outside several first-floor residential hall rooms as well as exterior screens dislodged or replaced askew. The Safety and Security Office is offering the following suggestions: • Immediately report any suspicious circumstances concerning your residential hall or apartment residence upon noticing something amiss and wait in safe location until Safety and Security officers or police arrive. Do not proceed into checking the interior of your residence until the police confirm no unwanted person is present. • Be exceptionally diligent in securing first floor windows and doors when leaving your residence unattended or while sleeping.
• Make an agreement with your roommates and follow the safe practice of always closing and locking your residence doors and windows when you are not present, or when you are sleeping.
• Safeguard your student ID card; secure your laptop or take it with you, and report any loss or theft immediately to Safety and Security. • Report any concerns about the function of doors and windows to Facilities Operations at (440) 775-8445. Report for repair any windows that cannot be latched, secured, or locked in a ventilation opening only mode. • Contact Emergency 911, Safety and Security at 440-775-8911, or seek assistance if you do not carry a cell phone and you first discover a burglary. Give your name, location and brief explanation of the situation. • If you wish an escort in first returning to your residence after being away from campus, contact the Safety and Security Office at 440-775-8444.

Oberlin Police Department and Safety and Security are investigating the reported incidents. Anyone with information or with knowledge of any similar suspicious activity should contact the Oberlin Police at 440-774-1061, or may report the information to the Safety and Security office.
