String Quartet Intensive and Festival opens tonight, January 7
Jan. 7, 2014
Warm yourself in Kulas Recital Hall this evening at 8 PM. This opening guest recital features violinist Areta Zhulla, of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two, and Oberlin's collaborative pianist, James Howsmon.
Repertoire for the evening includes two works by Ravel--his American jazz and blues-inspired second violin sonata and the virtuosic and fiery Tzigane--and Mozart's only violin sonata in a minor key (K. 304), from his emotionally intense time in Paris. It is universally regarded as one of his finest chamber music works.
