Opportunities for Students to Meet Dean of Students Candidates

March 8, 2011

The Dean of Students Search Committee will conduct on-campus interviews on March 10, 14, and 16. On behalf of the entire Search Committee, I encourage you to attend the two events for all students to meet with each candidate. (There will be an additional session for leaders of student organizations as well.) For all three candidates, the format will be the same:

The first event is an open forum for students from 4:30-6:20 in West Lecture Hall. We have asked candidates to make 20-minute presentations around questions framed by the Search Committee and Student Senate, followed by a 90-minute open Question & Answer period facilitated by students from OCDC. The second event is an informal “cookies with candidates” reception from 9-10 p.m. in the Conservatory Sky Bar.

The schedule of meetings in sum is as follows: Thursday, March 10: Dr. Mary Oling-Sisay 4:30-6:20pm, West Lecture Hall: Lecture and Student Q/A. 9:00-10:00pm, Conservatory Sky Bar: “Cookies with Candidates” reception.

Monday, March 14: Dr. Sylvia Spears 4:30-6:20pm, West Lecture Hall: Lecture and Student Q/A. 9:00-10:00pm, Conservatory Sky Bar: “Cookies with Candidates” reception.

Wednesday, March 16: Dr. Eric Estes 4:30-6:20pm, West Lecture Hall: Lecture and Student Q/A. 9:00-10:00pm, Conservatory Sky Bar: “Cookies with Candidates” reception.

Brief bios of the candidates are included in the Events Calendar listings for these forums and receptions, and their résumés are available for perusal in the Office of the President, Cox 201.

On-campus interviews are opportunities for candidates and students to learn about each other. The Search Committee hopes you will take advantage of the opportunity to engage the candidates. We also hope the on-campus interview process will allow our candidates to experience Oberlin’s best asset – the sophistication, creativity, seriousness, and fairness of our diverse student body.

Your support and feedback has been invaluable to our search process. We hope you will make it a priority to meet all three candidates and make your voices heard by completing the feedback forms that will be available at all interview sessions. The description of the role, responsibilities, and qualifications of the Dean of Students position can be found at http://new.oberlin.edu/home/jobs/jobs_detail.dot?id=2684913

Thank you,
David Kamitsuka
